Zero Waste Garden Party – How to Celebrate Sustainably in the Open Air

July 2, 2025Manuela Frei

The sun is shining, the grass is green, and the air is filled with the scent of grilled vegetables and fresh herbs. Summer is calling for a garden party with friends, family, and neighbors. But how can you celebrate such a celebration without creating mountains of waste? It's simple: with a few thoughtful decisions and the right equipment.

We'll show you how to make your next garden party zero waste – without single-use plastic, aluminum scraps, and packaging madness.

Preparation: Plan instead of waste

As with any sustainable activity, it all starts with good planning. Create a guest list so you have the right amount of food and drinks. Ask in advance who can bring what – this will turn your garden party into a bring-your-own buffet. And: fewer leftovers = less waste.

Tip: Use bowl covers instead of cling film or aluminum foil. They're reusable, breathable, and reliably protect your salads and dips from insects. Plus, they look pretty and add color to the table.

Drinks, but please plastic-free

Who hasn't experienced this – suddenly half the garden is covered in empty plastic cups and forgotten straws? There's an alternative: Provide glasses or ask your guests to bring their own. For an extra dose of style, try reusable drinking straws made of stainless steel or silicone (great for kids too!). Not only are they durable, they also feel high-quality – perfect for iced tea, cocktails, or lemonade.

By the way: You can freeze herbs, citrus fruits or berries in our stainless steel ice cube trays before the party – it looks beautiful and ensures extra freshness in the glass.

Grilling with a good feeling

Aluminum trays often end up in the trash immediately after grilling – but there are sustainable alternatives that are not only more durable but also better for you and the environment. Our stainless steel grill tray is reusable, easy to clean, and can even withstand marinated grilled vegetables.

Instead of aluminum foil: Grill corn cobs directly in their husks. Simply peel back the husk slightly, brush the corn with a little oil and seasoning, re-wrap, and grill. The natural husk protects the corn, retains flavor, and is easily composted at the end.

Snacking without packaging waste

What would a summer party be without ice cream? With our popsicle mold, you can easily prepare homemade ice cream – whether it's fruit sorbet, coconut yogurt, or cold brew with a hint of vanilla. Not only do you avoid plastic packaging, but you also know exactly what's in it.

Bonus: Our popsicle molds with stainless steel sticks are perfect for homemade ice cream – completely without packaging waste. For younger children, compostable wooden sticks are an alternative. This makes snacking sustainable and fun for the whole family.

Atmosphere without waste – sustainable decoration

Who says beautiful decorations have to produce waste? Instead of disposable streamers and foil balloons, we rely on durable, natural alternatives. Particularly charming: our linen bunting , made from fabric scraps—colorful, reusable, and completely plastic-free.

Fresh flowers from the garden or the farmer's market are perfect for the table and buffet. Loosely placed in old bottles or jars, they create a relaxing and inviting effect. As the evening gets darker, homemade lanterns made from glass jars, tea lights , and a bit of string provide warm, atmospheric light.

Conclusion: Less waste, more enjoyment

A zero-waste garden party doesn't mean deprivation—quite the opposite. You'll celebrate more consciously, more relaxed, and often even more beautifully. Taking the time to reuse things and opting for quality over disposable items creates an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable.

And the best part: With a few small investments – like our bowl covers , drinking straws , the stainless steel grill tray , the popsicle mold and the ice cube tray – you'll be ready for many summer parties.

So: set the table, invite your loved ones and celebrate sustainably 🌿
