In August 2026, we treated ourselves to a 6-day break in Lisbon and its surroundings. We had already seen beforehand that there were a variety of vegan restaurants and places with plant-based alternatives, and we were not disappointed.
In general, it's very easy to eat vegan in Lisbon. Vegetarian and vegan options are available in many restaurants, and there are always little spots where you can enjoy vegan ice cream. At least water ice cream ;-)
Here are our highlights, short and sweet:
Plant Base
Plant Base is a small restaurant offering burgers, hot dogs, pizza, momos, and much more. Everything is entirely plant-based, so you can order carefree to your heart's content. The dishes lean more towards fast food, but if you're looking to really indulge, this is the place to be. Often, when there's such a wide selection, people tend to be skeptical about the taste. But you definitely don't have to be here. Order whatever your heart desires, and you won't be disappointed!

Honest Greens
Honest Greens is a restaurant chain, but still highly recommended. We had breakfast there (sweet and savory options) because they have a huge vegan selection (the restaurant is vegetarian), everything is freshly prepared, and they generally focus on healthy choices (free from refined sugar, low oil, etc.).
For coffee and tea, there are various plant-based drinks to choose from, and desserts like low-sugar cakes, bliss balls, or avocado-chocolate mousse also sweeten your day.
Legumi Sushi Vegan
Legumi Sushi has a very family-like atmosphere. As the name suggests, you'll find purely vegan sushi, freshly prepared. The location is VERY small, but even if you have to wait a short while for a table, it's worth it!
There are fantastic tasting boats (yes, it's served in a small boat), but we opted for gyozas, vegetable tempura, and a small sushi tasting platter. After we tried them, the chef put together a sushi platter for us according to our preferences.
Kong - Food made with compassion
If you want to truly indulge yourself culinarily, then you must not miss Kong. Kong has won many awards and lives up to all of them. The purely vegan menu offers regional specialties, spectacularly served. We immediately treated ourselves to a 3-course meal, which fills your stomach just enough so that you are absolutely full, but don't feel overstuffed.
Kong is a must for us, whether you are vegan or not ;-)
Snacks on the go
Anyone walking through the alleys of Lisbon cannot miss them: the Pastel de Nata. These are small puff pastry tarts with a cream filling. These usually contain eggs and milk. BUT there is one exception where only vegan Nata is available :-) At Vegan Nata Chiado. So if you want to enjoy these tarts completely cruelty-free, you can do so there.
At lunchtime, we usually looked spontaneously and often bought small things at the supermarket or had fries on excursions. We didn't really find any vegan ready meals in the supermarket, but we didn't starve because of it. There are plenty of vegan crackers, protein bars, or fruits to grab a quick lunch.
However, we also treated ourselves to a sandwich at Green Beans, a purely vegan & sustainable shop with a small café, and took it with us on a bike tour.
One lunchtime, we spontaneously ended up in another part of Lisbon and found a vegan snack there too: At Antù Alfama we ate cauliflower wings and avocado toasts with homemade pickled onions. Very delicious and just right for a snack.
